How it works

Clean Page is a single web page at cleanpage.app.

The writing session

The page opens as a blank sheet of US Letter paper with half-inch margins. You type, and the words flow onto the sheet. Keep writing for as long as you like.

The writing is plain text. The only formatting is simple whitespace: space, tab, and line break. Standard editing works as in any text field: cursor keys, selection, cut, copy, paste, undo, and redo.

Writing is held in the page only. It is not saved automatically. Closing or reloading the tab clears it. The browser asks before you close or leave a page that has unsaved writing, and New and Open ask before discarding it.

Saving and loading files

Save downloads your document as a plain text file using your device's built-in file dialog. If your browser or device does not support this, then Clean Page shows a Download button which prompts for a filename and then downloads your document as a text file using standard browser mechanisms.

Open supports picking a file from your system to open. The file is never sent to our servers.

A "Changes saved" status appears when the writing matches the last opened, saved, or downloaded copy. It disappears while you are editing.

Once a file is saved, it lives wherever you put it, under whatever service manages that location. Clean Page holds no copy of it.

Printing

Print formats the document for US Letter, black text on white page, portrait layout, with half inch margins on all sides.

Installing (PWA)

Clean Page is offered as a Progressive Web App (PWA) and can be installed. However, this is optional and not required.

Spell checking and other writing tools

Clean Page does not offer a spellchecker, grammar checker, autocomplete, or any other writing tools that modify or edit your writing. What you type is exactly what is placed on page.

Your browser may offer built-in spellcheck or other tools, which can be used if needed.

Voice to text

Clean Page does not offer a separate voice to text feature. However, it will accept text input from any standard voice to text software that you use already.
